Amber Amour shared a photo of herself taken in Cape Town, South Africa only a few minutes after she claims she was raped. The photo, which showed her crying, was posted with a story of the rape. She said it happened when a man she knew invited her to take a shower with him at a party, which she agreed to because the shower at her hostel didn’t have any hot water.
1. When she got into the bathroom he forced her to her knees and violently penetrated her both vaginally and anally, even though she said no.
2. After making this post she received a lot of reactions, both positive and negative, from Instagram users.
One commenter called her a disgusting excuse of a human. Amour defended herself by saying that the bullying and accusations after an event such as this is one of the main reasons why so many rape survivors don’t speak up.
3. Many commenters pointed out that she knew the drunk man was attracted to her and she shouldn’t have gotten in a shower with him, as this was sending him mixed signals. One person compared it to letting a “hungry cobra play with a pet mouse.”
4. Other commenters asked her why she didn’t immediately call the cops, but Armour said that “reporting rape is almost as traumatic as rape itself.”
5. This woman is an anti-rape activist who works for the “Stop Rape. Educate” campaign. She was interviewed by the New York Daily News and she said that she needed to tell her story in order to help victims of sexual assault.
6.
7. She also wrote about her experience for Huffington Post, responding to allegations that she fabricated the story. She said she told the truth because she wanted to convey the message that no matter what a person does, there is no justification for rape.
On Facebook she explained that the man who had allegedly raped her had been officially apprehended by South African police and released on about $75 bail.
